Useful Information
Appointments And Access
The practice aims to make appointments with the doctors and nurses available at times that are convienient for our patients. Appointments are available for booking up to five-six weeks ahead, some made available one week in advance with the remaining appointments available on the day. If you wish to book ahead, please do so well in advance, via reception or the website (see under Registration). This maybe done up to five-six weeks in advance.
A new telephone system has been installed with the new 0844 number allowing patients to select options at the press of a telephone key once the call has been answered. Our telephone lines are very busy from 8.30 to 9.30 and between 2.00 to 3.00; callers will be informed of their position in the queue and you may be advised to call back later when the surgery is less busy.
Every effort will be made to arrange an appointment with your preferred practitioner and at the time of your choice, but this may not always be possible.
While we respect a patient’s right not to divulge the reason for using the surgery, we do offer dedicated clinics and services from doctors with special interests, nurse practitioners and specialist nurses; in order for us to help you access these effectively and correctly and avoid the need to make a further appointment it may be necessary for our reception staff to enquire discreetly and in general terms only, about the purpose of your visit. They will be happy to guide you to the most appropriate clinician. In this way we hope to avoid disappointment and frustration to both parties.
At times, calls into and out of the surgery may be recorded for reasons of training or security, callers will be notified when this happens.
Telephone Appointments
If you feel your problem can be dealt with without a face-to-face consultation, telephone appointments are available in each session with both doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses and these can be booked through reception. If your call is regarding an on going problem where possible speak to the doctor who dealt with your problem ORIGINALLY and please ensure that your telephone is charged and switched on.
Practice nurse and clinic appointments
These may be booked ahead in the usual way.
Home Visits
We find these are only rarely necessary and are reserved for those unable to attend the surgery. Please make requests for home visits before 10.00 a.m. You will be asked to give a telephone number and a doctor will return your call to discuss your request.
Results of Tests and Investigations
Should there be a problem with your blood test your Doctor will contact you, but if you wish to discuss any results then contact the surgery requesting a telephone consultation with the doctor, who originally sent you for the test. Please telephone between 10.00 and 12 o’clock or after 3.00pm to arrange this.
Results can ONLY be given to the patient to whom they relate.
Out Of Hours
With the introduction of the new general practice contract, out of hours work is managed by the PCT, who employ medical staff working from a centre attached to the A&E department at Warwick Hospital, ‘out of hours’ includes:
- 6.30pm to 8.00am weekdays
- 8.00am Saturday to 8.00 am Monday (the surgery is open on certain Saturdays for prebooked appointments only)
- all public holidays
During these times the surgery phone will carry a message giving the number to contact the out of hours service – 0300 130 3040. Please do not use this service for problems that can reasonably wait until the surgery re-opens.
